  1. According to informed sources, after raising interest rates in June, the Bank of Japan may raise rates again at its next policy meeting scheduled for September 17–18 to address the ongoing risk of rising inflation. Factors driving price increases include rapidly growing AI-related demand, significant depreciation of the yen, and higher crude oil prices.
  2. Previously, financial markets generally expected the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates about once every six months, but minutes from the July 30–31 policy meeting show that several policy board members believe it is necessary to accelerate the pace of rate hikes.
  3. Specifically, one member stated that “the pace of policy rate hikes may exceed market expectations,” while another emphasized the need to “speed up the pace of monetary easing adjustments,” further reinforcing market speculation about a possible rate hike in September.
