AirAsia X suspends Sydney-Kuala Lumpur route amid cost pressures and softer demand
Reuters2026/08/20 05:50- AirAsia Group Bhd will suspend the Sydney–Kuala Lumpur route operated by AirAsia X as it recalibrates its network.
- Move reflects higher cost pressures, softer demand, fleet constraints, accelerated retirement of older widebody aircraft on the route.
- Capacity will be redeployed to other Australia services, with Perth–Denpasar rising to 35 weekly flights from December 2026.
- Melbourne–Kuala Lumpur will return to daily service; Perth–Kuala Lumpur frequencies set to increase to 14 weekly flights.
