U.S. Treasurys Could Be More Sensitive to Weaker Core Inflation Data -- Market Talk

1500 GMT - U.S. government bonds could be more reactive to weaker-than-expected U.S. core inflation data, rather than stronger-than-expected core inflation, Bank of America strategists say in a note. Investors await the U.S. inflation data for July, due to be released on Wednesday. "A meaningful downside miss to 0.2% consensus would likely be interpreted as both delaying the timing of hikes and reducing the need for them altogether," they say. However, a stronger-than-expected reading would raise the prospects of the U.S. Federal Reserve raising interest rates in September, but not lock it in considering more data is due before the next Fed meeting, the strategists say.
