Trump denies frequent calls with Walsh: Only spoke once since Walsh took office
Trump stated on Monday that he had a conversation with Federal Reserve Chairman Waller a few days ago, and that since Waller took office, he had only spoken with him once. Previously, foreign media had reported that Trump had multiple phone calls with Waller, breaking the usual protocol for interactions between presidents and the Fed chair. Trump’s statement denied those reports.
US President Trump stated on Monday that he spoke with Federal Reserve Chair Walsh a few days ago, and since Walsh took office as Fed Chair, he has only spoken with him once.
Trump said at the White House that he had only had one brief conversation with Walsh. "Just one conversation," Trump said.
Trump added that Walsh would be responsible for leading the Federal Reserve and noted that the Fed Chair must cooperate with the Board of Governors.
"He will lead the Federal Reserve. I know what he wants to do, but he must be in charge of running the Federal Reserve. He has a board, and the Fed's decisions are not up to him alone. If he made all the decisions himself, things would be different, but he also has a board," Trump said.
Earlier foreign media reports said Trump and Walsh had spoken multiple times, breaking with the precedent set by previous presidents regarding contact with the Fed Chair. Trump's latest statement denied those reports.
According to earlier coverage by Wallstreetcn, Walsh had no calls with Trump in June.
