Deutsche Bank boosts Strategy holdings to all-time high of $85M
Deutsche Bank just made its largest bet yet on Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin treasury company. The German banking giant increased its MicroStrategy holdings to 874,925 shares in its Q2 2026 filing, a position valued at roughly $76M to $85M.
The bank scooped up 90,006 additional shares during the quarter, building on a position that stood at 784,919 shares at the end of Q1.
A pattern of quiet accumulation
In Q1 2026, the bank added 53,215 shares to its position. The Q2 addition of 90,006 shares nearly doubles that pace.
The filing, dated around August 7, 2026, represents the bank’s largest reported stake in MicroStrategy to date.
MicroStrategy, which now trades under the name Strategy, has transformed itself from an enterprise software company into what amounts to a publicly traded Bitcoin fund. The company holds over 840,000 BTC on its balance sheet, making it the largest corporate Bitcoin holder on the planet by a wide margin.
Why traditional banks are choosing the side door
There’s a reason institutions like Deutsche Bank opt for Strategy shares rather than buying Bitcoin directly or through spot ETFs. Regulatory constraints, internal compliance frameworks, and fiduciary obligations make direct crypto holdings complicated for banks operating under European and global banking regulations.
Strategy shares trade on NASDAQ, settle through traditional clearing infrastructure, and show up on quarterly filings like any other equity position. The trade-off is that Strategy shares come with a premium to net asset value, meaning investors pay more per dollar of Bitcoin exposure than they would buying the asset directly.
What this means for the market
The signaling effect matters more than the dollar amount. An $85M position is a rounding error on Deutsche Bank’s total assets under management. But the directional message, that one of Europe’s systemically important banks keeps adding to its crypto-adjacent holdings, carries weight that transcends the specific trade size.
