  1. U.S. natural gas futures rose to a one-week high on Monday, with the front-month contract closing near $2.76 per million British thermal units, up about 3.6% on the day, driven mainly by liquefied natural gas export plant intake climbing to a one-month high.
  2. Daily LNG feed gas flows reached about 17.9 billion cubic feet that day, the highest level since July, with the short-term rebound in export demand directly supporting gas prices.
  3. Meteorological forecasts show that through August 25, temperatures across most of the U.S. will remain above normal, maintaining strong demand for air conditioning and thus high gas-fired power generation. Around 40% of electricity is supplied by gas-fired plants, and seasonal consumption remains resilient.
  4. On the speculative position front, net short positions climbed to their highest level since February 2024 last week. Seven consecutive weeks of price declines have led to overcrowded shorts. If fundamentals show marginal improvements, short covering could amplify price elasticity.
  5. Inventories remain high, with stocks for the week ending August 7 estimated to be about 6.6% above the five-year average. Whether prices can maintain their rebound will depend on whether export flows stay elevated and the extent of any weather surprises.
