CRYPTO MARKET UNDER PRESSURE: WHY ALTCOINS ARE DUMPING, WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING AND WHAT COMES NEXT
CRYPTO MARKET UNDER PRESSURE: WHY ALTCOINS ARE DUMPING, WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING, AND WHAT COMES NEXT
November 1, 2026 | Market Outlook
The crypto market is going through a difficult period. Bitcoin is trying to stabilize, but a large number of altcoins are suffering much heavier losses. Futures traders are facing liquidations, confidence has been shaken by a major exchange security incident, and investors are becoming more selective about where they put their money.
The important question is whether this is a temporary shakeout before another recovery or the beginning of a deeper correction.
Looking at the latest market activity, I believe the market is in a high-risk transition phase. There are opportunities, but blindly buying falling altcoins could be expensive.
1. WHY IS THE MARKET DUMPING SO BADLY?
There isn't just one reason. Several events have combined to create pressure.
The Binance security incident damaged market confidence.
One of the biggest triggers was the reported $6.3 billion security breach involving Binance. The incident created concerns about exchange security, customer funds and the wider crypto market.
Reuters reported that Binance had replenished around 90% of the affected assets by October 31, using company funds to replace stolen tokens. The remaining 10% consisted of less-liquid assets. Binance also said it was working toward reopening withdrawals on November 1.
This is an important development, but replacing assets does not instantly restore market confidence. Traders still want to see normal withdrawals, clear proof of reserves and confidence that the security problem has been contained.
Billions of dollars in leveraged positions were liquidated.
The second major problem was excessive leverage.
CoinDesk reported approximately $1.53 billion in forced liquidations over 24 hours following the selloff. Around 83.8% of those liquidations were long positions.
This matters because when leveraged long positions are automatically closed, exchanges sell the underlying assets. That creates more downward pressure, which can trigger additional liquidations.
It becomes a chain reaction:
- Prices begin falling.
- Leveraged long positions get liquidated.
- Forced selling pushes prices lower.
- More traders hit their liquidation levels.
- Fear spreads across the market.
This is how an ordinary correction can turn into a much more aggressive selloff.
Macroeconomic pressure is adding another layer of risk.
The Federal Reserve held its interest rate at 3.75%–4.00%, but two officials reportedly supported a rate increase. Markets also became more concerned about the possibility of another hike.
At the same time, technology stocks suffered a major selloff. The Nasdaq fell 2.86% on October 30, while Intel and Reddit experienced particularly sharp declines.
When investors become nervous about interest rates and risk assets, speculative cryptocurrencies often face additional selling pressure.
2. WHAT YOUR MARKET SCREENS ARE TELLING US
The biggest warning is the weakness across smaller futures markets.
Your losers list shows:
- $QUS: -36.54%
- $SOPH: -34.68%
- $IDOL: -25.73%
- $AKE: -21.54%
- $JCT: -15.47%
- $BIRB: -14.96%
- $CAP: -12.36%
- $AGT: -11.55%
- $BLUR: -11.02%
- $GWEI: -10.34%
These losses show that the pressure is not limited to Bitcoin or Ethereum. Smaller, more speculative assets are being hit much harder.
The futures funding-rate screen also deserves attention:
$COW, $BLUR, $STX, $SOPH, $GTC, $WET, $POWR and $LSK all appeared with negative funding rates in your snapshot.
Negative funding means short positions are paying long positions. It can signal that bearish positioning is becoming crowded, but it does not automatically mean prices must rise. A market can remain bearish even when funding is deeply negative.
This is where traders need to be careful: a crowded short market can produce a sudden short squeeze, but entering too early can still lead to losses.
3. WHERE IS THE MONEY MOVING?
Your volume ranking gives us another important clue.
The leading futures markets in your screenshot include:
- $BTC: $850.12M volume
- $ETH: $341.33M
- $HYPE: $87.62M
- $SOL: $70.99M
- $ZEC: $66.04M
- $SOXL: $50.31M
- $NEAR: $49.37M
- $PEPE: $44.62M
- $LSK: $44.53M
The difference between major-coin liquidity and smaller-altcoin activity is important.
Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the largest volume centers in this snapshot. Meanwhile, traders are still active in selected assets such as $HYPE, $ZEC and $PEPE.
One detail: $SOXL is a leveraged stock-market ETF product, not a standard cryptocurrency token.
The lesson is that money has not disappeared from every market. It is becoming more selective. Traders are focusing on liquidity, volatility and assets that can attract attention even while the wider market struggles.
4. NOT EVERY COIN IS FALLING
Despite the broader weakness, your gainers screen shows several assets moving strongly upward:
- $AIN: +29.74%
- $EVAA: +25.53%
- $ESPORTS: +24.47%
- $AIOT: +21.29%
- $MAGMA: +19.51%
- $LIT: +14.11%
- $MORPHO: +13.62%
- $UAI: +12.79%
- $STX: +12.65%
This is a useful sign of selective liquidity.
However, a coin rising 20% during a weak market is not automatically a safe investment. Some of these moves may be driven by short covering, temporary speculation or isolated demand.
The key question is whether these assets can hold their gains after the initial move.
If they maintain higher lows and continue attracting volume, they may become relative market leaders. If they quickly surrender their gains, the move may have been temporary.
5. THE MAJOR COINS: WHAT SHOULD WE WATCH?
$BTC — Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the most important asset to monitor. Your volume screen shows it leading the market in activity. A stable Bitcoin price could help reduce pressure on altcoins, while another breakdown could trigger another wave of selling.
$ETH — Ethereum
Ethereum remains important because of its role across DeFi and the wider altcoin market. A strong recovery in ETH would improve confidence, but weakness could keep pressure on smaller tokens.
$SOL — Solana
Solana is another important indicator of risk appetite. If $SOL starts outperforming during a Bitcoin recovery, it could signal that traders are becoming more comfortable taking risk again.
$HYPE — Hyperliquid
$HYPE is worth watching because it has shown relative strength during the broader market weakness. However, strong recent performance can also attract aggressive profit-taking.
$ZEC — Zcash
$ZEC has also attracted attention and remains one of the stronger assets in the weekly market picture. Its ability to maintain demand will be important.
$NEAR, $PEPE and $LSK
These assets deserve attention because they remain among the active futures markets in your volume screen. Volume alone does not guarantee bullish momentum, but it helps identify where traders are still participating.
6. WHAT COMES NEXT? THREE POSSIBLE SCENARIOS
Scenario 1: Recovery and short squeeze
If Binance restores normal withdrawals, provides convincing reserve information and market confidence improves, Bitcoin could stabilize.
If that happens, heavily shorted altcoins may experience sharp recovery moves. Assets with strong volume and clear technical support could benefit.
This would be a recovery phase, not necessarily the start of a new bull market.
Scenario 2: Sideways consolidation
This is another realistic possibility.
Bitcoin may stabilize while altcoins continue moving independently. Some coins could recover, while others continue losing value.
In this environment, coin selection becomes more important than simply buying the entire market.
Scenario 3: Another major downside move
If Bitcoin loses its recent support areas, macroeconomic pressure increases, or confidence in exchange security weakens again, another wave of liquidations could follow.
Smaller altcoins would likely remain more vulnerable because their liquidity is generally thinner.
7. WHAT I WOULD WATCH BEFORE TAKING THE NEXT TRADE
I would focus on five things:
1. Bitcoin stability: Does $BTC hold its recovery, or does selling return?
2. Ethereum strength: Can $ETH recover and support the wider altcoin market?
3. Exchange confidence: Are withdrawals operating normally, and is proof of reserves available?
4. Futures positioning: Are negative funding rates followed by actual buying, or do prices continue falling?
5. Altcoin volume: Are gainers maintaining their strength, or are traders selling into every bounce?
I would avoid blindly buying coins simply because they have fallen 20%–35%. A large decline does not automatically make an asset undervalued.
Likewise, I would avoid chasing coins after sudden 20% rallies without checking whether the move is supported by real demand.
FINAL MARKET VIEW
The crypto market is dealing with a combination of exchange-security concerns, forced liquidations, hawkish interest-rate expectations and weaker confidence in speculative assets.
But there is an important distinction between a market-wide collapse and a market undergoing a painful reset.
Bitcoin, Ethereum and other liquid assets are still attracting significant trading activity. Meanwhile, selected altcoins are showing strength despite widespread selling.
My current approach would be defensive rather than aggressively bullish. I would prioritize capital protection, wait for Bitcoin to establish stability and look for individual altcoins that can hold their gains with strong volume.
The next major opportunity may not come from buying the biggest losers. It may come from identifying which assets refuse to break down while the rest of the market is under pressure.
The market is not giving easy opportunities right now. Patience, liquidity and risk management matter more than aggressive predictions.
