Can Record Earnings Put Apple on the Verge of a Breakout
2026/11/05 07:371. Record Earnings Trigger a Strong Rebound After a Brief Selloff
Apple (AAPL) delivered impressive results in its latest earnings report. Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue reached $114.5 billion, up 12% year over year and setting a new record for the September quarter. Earnings per share rose 14% to $2.10. iPhone revenue reached a September-quarter record, while Services revenue hit an all-time high.
However, the strong results did not immediately translate into share price gains. On November 3, AAPL fell as low as $325.33 intraday before closing at $331.90. Sentiment then reversed sharply. On November 4, the stock surged 5.31% to close at $349.51, after touching a new 52-week high of $354.50. The dramatic swings over just two trading sessions reflected investors' efforts to balance Apple's strong growth outlook against concerns about margin pressure.
2. iPhone and Services Drive Growth, but Rising Costs Remain a Concern
Apple's two major growth engines remain the iPhone and Services businesses. The latest iPhone lineup has supported demand for premium models, while Apple's massive installed base continues to fuel Services revenue growth. Management expects revenue in the December holiday quarter to rise 7%–10% year over year, potentially setting another quarterly record.
Meanwhile, as other technology giants significantly increase spending on AI infrastructure, Apple has taken a more measured approach to capital expenditure while advancing its AI capabilities through technology partnerships. This strategy helps preserve cash flow and shareholder returns, making Apple attractive as investors increasingly question the returns on massive AI investments.
Nevertheless, cost pressures are mounting. Gross margin reached 47.9% in the latest quarter, including approximately one percentage point of benefit from tariff refunds. Management expects gross margin to decline to 45%–46% in the December quarter, primarily due to rising memory chip prices and costs associated with Siri AI development. With AAPL trading at nearly 39 times earnings, sustained profit growth will be essential to justify its elevated valuation.
3. Technical Momentum Improves, With $354.50 as Key Resistance
From a technical perspective, AAPL has quickly regained strength following its early-November pullback. Trading volume reached approximately 89.5 million shares on November 4, well above its 20-day average of roughly 46.3 million shares, indicating strong buying interest behind the rebound.
The stock has climbed back above its 20-day moving average at $342.91 and its 50-day moving average at $334.84, keeping the medium-term uptrend intact. The 14-day RSI has recovered to around 57.8, suggesting improving momentum without reaching overbought territory. However, the MACD remains below its signal line, indicating that short-term momentum has yet to fully confirm the bullish move.
The immediate resistance level stands at $354.50, the latest 52-week high. Although AAPL briefly reached this level intraday, it pulled back to close at $349.51, meaning a sustained breakout still requires confirmation. On the downside, the 20-day moving average around $342–$343 serves as an important near-term support area.
4. Trading Outlook: Can Earnings Growth Sustain the Rally?
Looking ahead, AAPL's upside potential will largely depend on holiday-quarter sales expectations, continued Services growth, and investor confidence in its disciplined capital spending and cash flow generation. As concerns about AI investment returns intensify across the technology sector, Apple's consistent profitability and relatively controlled spending could continue attracting investor interest.
In the near term, price action around $354.50 will be critical. A convincing breakout above this level, supported by strong trading volume, could pave the way for further gains. If the stock fails to break through resistance, investors should watch whether buying interest emerges near the 20-day moving average.
Overall, Apple's latest earnings have strengthened confidence in its growth prospects, although rising memory costs, margin pressure, and elevated valuation remain important challenges. Holiday-quarter sales performance and the stock's ability to establish a sustained breakout above its recent high will determine whether the current rebound develops into a more durable upward trend.
