Investors Try to Get Their Heads Around Democrat Sweep -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/11/04 10:201020 GMT - Investors are unsure what the Democrats' landslide midterm election victory means for financial markets, AJ Bell's Russ Mould writes. An initial selloff has quickly turned into gains across U.S. futures, he notes. "A positive market reaction implies that certain investors are welcoming the potential that Trump's political power may be curbed somewhat," he says. Gold is also getting a boost as investors look for a 'just in case' hedge. Meanwhile, the precious metal could also be gaining on fears Democrats could go on a spending spree, he adds. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average are up 1.15%, while S&P 500 futures are up around 0.65%. Gold futures gain 2.8%. (adam.whittaker@wsj.com)
