AMD Rebounds After Stronger-Than-Expected Earnings

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed 3.65% higher at $483.90 on November 3. Its third-quarter earnings report subsequently pushed shares further upward, with the stock gaining 5.02% to $508.20 in after-hours trading as of 7:59 p.m. ET. However, AMD had already fallen more than 26% from its October peak of $658.52, raising questions about whether the earnings-driven rebound could reverse the recent downtrend.
AMD reported third-quarter revenue of $13.377 billion, up 45% year over year, while adjusted earnings per share reached $2.09, exceeding market expectations of $1.95. More importantly, the company projected fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $17 billion, above the consensus estimate of $16.23 billion, implying year-over-year growth of roughly 66%.

Data Center Revenue Nearly Doubles as AI Growth Outlook Strengthens

AMD's data center business was the standout performer. Third-quarter revenue reached $8.546 billion, surging 97% year over year and accounting for approximately 64% of total revenue. Strong demand for EPYC server processors and initial contributions from Instinct MI450 GPUs helped accelerate the segment's expansion.
AMD is also expanding its presence in AI infrastructure through its Helios rack-scale computing platform, which integrates Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and software into comprehensive solutions. Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Oracle have begun deploying related systems and workloads. As Helios and Venice processors enter broader production, AMD could capture a larger share of hyperscalers' AI infrastructure spending.
Management expects overall revenue growth to exceed 80% in 2027, with data center operations serving as the primary driver. However, fourth-quarter adjusted gross margin is projected to decline from 56% to 55%, while tight high-bandwidth memory supplies could constrain product deliveries. Meanwhile, revenue from the client and gaming segment declined 8% in the third quarter, highlighting persistent weakness in traditional businesses.

Technical Outlook: Multiple Resistance Levels Remain

AMD's technical structure has weakened considerably following consecutive sharp declines between October 29 and November 2. The stock briefly touched $466.07 on November 2. Although the earnings release lifted after-hours prices back above $500, AMD remains below key short-term moving averages, leaving substantial overhead resistance.
The $500–$520 range represents the first major resistance zone, with $520 corresponding to the October 30 intraday high. A sustained breakout accompanied by stronger trading volume could open the way toward $548–$562, where the 50-day and 20-day moving averages form an important resistance cluster.
On the downside, initial support lies around $473, followed by the recent low near $466. A decisive break below this region could extend the correction toward the $450 area.

Trading Outlook: Watch for Breakout Confirmation and Support Tests

The immediate focus is whether AMD can sustain its post-earnings momentum. A convincing breakout above $520, followed by continued strength in subsequent sessions, could create opportunities for a move toward the $548–$562 resistance zone.
If shares encounter selling pressure between $500 and $520, traders should monitor whether buyers defend the $500 level during a pullback. A renewed decline below the $473–$466 support zone would suggest that the earnings rebound has failed to establish a sustainable recovery, warranting a more cautious trading approach.
Over the coming quarters, Helios shipment volumes, data center revenue growth, and gross margin trends will play central roles in determining whether AMD can justify its elevated valuation.
