Apple (AAPL.US) foldable screen device sells out worldwide! Foxconn states: With 240 global sites, we are "very confident" in meeting demand
iPhone Duo deliveries have been scheduled through the end of January. Hon Hai's rotating CEO stated that its 240 global sites can ensure supply, and the AI business has already contributed 51% of the company's revenue.
According to information from Zhihu Finance APP, Apple (AAPL.US)'s major manufacturing partner, Hon Hai Precision (also known as Foxconn), expects that its extensive global manufacturing network will help meet the growing demand for the U.S. company's iconic foldable-screen devices.
Earlier this month, the U.S. company launched the $2,000 iPhone Duo. The limited in-store inventory sold out quickly, and the delivery time for some online orders has been pushed back to late January, making it one of the longest delivery delays for a new product in Apple's modern history.
Currently, the iPhone Duo is primarily assembled by Hon Hai (Foxconn) at its campus in central China. Hon Hai also produces components for Apple at other factories both within and outside of China.
Hon Hai's rotating CEO, Chiang Shang-yi, stated in an interview: “We have over 240 locations in 24 countries around the world, which allows us to supply customers in a timely manner to meet their needs. Therefore, I am very confident that we can meet demand.”
This statement was made in response to questions about meeting holiday season orders for the iPhone Duo. Chiang Shang-yi added that he believes AI will boost demand for consumer electronics.
Although Chiang Shang-yi did not specifically name Apple or the iPhone Duo, he plays a key role in coordinating Foxconn's business with the U.S. company. In October this year, when Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan visited Foxconn’s central China factory, Chiang Shang-yi accompanied him on a tour of the iPhone Duo production line.
Hon Hai’s Chairman, Liu Yangwei, has been nurturing potential successors with the rotating CEO system. Chiang Shang-yi took up the new role in April this year.
Like many hardware peers in Taiwan, Hon Hai's business is undergoing a transformation in the AI era. Apple once contributed over 50% of its revenue, but things are different now. In the second quarter, Hon Hai’s Cloud and Networking division contributed 51% of total sales, indicating that AI-related hardware has become the engine driving the company’s growth.
Hon Hai is scheduled to showcase its latest server products equipped with NVIDIA chips at its annual flagship event on Friday, and is also expected to unveil a brand-new line of electric vehicles.
