Euro Could Trade-Range Bound Vs Dollar After ECB Decision -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/10/29 15:441544 GMT - The euro could stay within a tight range against the dollar for the remainder of the year after briefly hitting a 17-month low following the European Central Bank's decision to keep interest rates steady, J.P. Morgan Private Bank's Patrick Ernst says in a note. The euro has recovered from initial losses and the market focus now shifts to December as the next potential rate hike, he says. Persistent inflation and elevated energy prices keep the case for further tightening intact, albeit with the risk of the ECB standing pat following the recent tightening in financial conditions. "We still anticipate two additional ECB hikes, in December and March." The euro rises 0.1% to $1.1158 after falling to as low as $1.1103 earlier. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
