Musk Says Terafab Chip Production Targeting Late 2028

07:00 PM EDT, 10/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- SpaceX (SPCX) and Tesla (TSLA) are working with suppliers, including ASML, to accelerate equipment deliveries for Elon Musk's Terafab semiconductor project, with volume production targeted for the second half of 2028. SpaceX aims to produce its first test chip at a research fabrication facility in Austin, Texas, around May or June 2027, Musk said during Tesla's third quarter earnings call. The main Terafab facility in Gibbons Creek, Texas, is expected to begin volume production in the third or fourth quarter of 2028. Musk said the production timeline depends partly on suppliers accelerating equipment deliveries.
