A fresh build-up of XRP shorts could help set up a recovery rather than simply deepen losses, according to Cilinix Crypto’s latest market update.
The YouTube channel’s host argues that rapidly falling funding rates may signal increasingly crowded bearish positioning—but without a reclaim of $1.34 or another decisive price move, the downside scenario still carries more weight.
“Potentially we’re getting kind of, you know, exhausted with shorts,” Cilinix said. That is a possibility, not confirmation of a bottom: the host wants to see a liquidation spike, a capitulation move or a recovery of lost technical levels before treating the shift as meaningful.
Shorts build beneath a broken range
The analyst reported that more short positions had entered XRP during the morning, pushing funding rates lower. In isolation, that remains insufficient evidence for a bullish reversal, even alongside the bullish divergences noted in the update.
The central price threshold is $1.34, which Cilinix identifies as necessary to reclaim the previous trading range. A recovery of the previous quarter’s volume-weighted average price, or VWAP, also features in the analyst’s conditions for a stronger structure.
Until those levels are recovered, the host considers continued trading below the range—and a possible decline toward $1.20–$1.16—the more likely outcome. That lower zone contains the previous quarter’s value-area low; the analyst singles out $1.16–$1.17 as important downside support and a potential buying area, rather than a confirmed floor.
Weak market conditions leave little room for error
XRP’s performance relative to Bitcoin is another unresolved concern. The XRP/BTC pair remains at major support, according to the update, but the host says that support needs a strong reaction or bullish reclaim before it becomes constructive evidence.
Cilinix describes an unhelpful ETF backdrop, referring to recent outflows and a quiet preceding session. The host treats that inactivity as a negative signal, although the transcript provides no flow figures and a quiet session is not itself an outflow.
Broader conditions offer little support in the host’s assessment: equities had weakened, while volatility and oil prices remained elevated. A recovery in those conditions, combined with continued changes in short positioning, could give XRP a route back into its former range.
