Treasury Sets Tomorrow's Buyback Target At $6 Billion -- WSJ

The Treasury Department announced that it will purchase a maximum of $6 billion of 20-year to 30-year bonds at its buyback operation on Thursday, matching the target from its last buyback of longer-term debt.
The Treasury Department previously bought $5.2 billion of 10-year to 20-year Treasurys in the first buyback of longer-term debt following its surprise Aug. 19 announcement that it would at least double the size of such operations. That fell short of its $6 billion target, indicating that there was a shortfall of holders who wanted to sell at prevailing market prices.
Buybacks of 20-year to 30-year bonds tend to attract a larger amount of offers from the market, potentially allowing the government to repurchase more Treasurys.
Treasury yields have climbed since the Treasury Department's initial August announcement. But Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested at a recent congressional hearing that they might have risen even further without the increased buybacks.
