JPMorgan: Initiates NexGen Energy (NXE.US) with an “Overweight” rating, optimistic about the Rook I flagship uranium project
JPMorgan has initiated coverage of Canadian uranium miner NexGen Energy (NXE.US) with an "Overweight" rating and a target price of $14.
According to Golden Ten Data APP, JPMorgan has initiated coverage on Canadian uranium miner NexGen Energy (NXE.US) with an “Overweight” rating and a target price of $14. The bank stated that NexGen stock offers an attractive risk-return profile, thanks to the flagship Rook I project's scale, ultra-high grade, and low-cost characteristics.
JPMorgan analyst Bill Peterson said that NexGen’s “portfolio stands out in grade (U3O8 content above 2%), scale (market share over 10%), and region (Canada).” He emphasized that, unlike its peers, this project has obtained full permitting and enjoys strong backing from funding partners.
Peterson stated that among the global peer projects under his coverage, Rook I boasts the largest output and the lowest all-in sustaining cost. Compared to many high-leverage upstream peers, NexGen’s net present value (NPV) is relatively less sensitive to uranium prices, reflecting its ultra-low-cost profile. He noted, “As nearby exploration targets are incorporated into mine planning, we see a path toward achieving decades-long mine life.”
Although construction is not without risk, Peterson believes that the news-related risks are more long-term, the valuation is “not demanding,” and the project’s asset quality is excellent with options for long-term growth, thus forming an attractive risk-return proposition.
As of Monday’s US market close, NexGen Energy rose 4.81% to $9.80. The stock has gained 6.5% so far this year.
