01:15 PM EDT, 09/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with company's confirmation in the first paragraph.) Meta Platforms (META) confirmed in an emailed response to MT Newswires Tuesday that it is planning to start deploying a new in-house AI chip in data centers in H1 2027. The move is expected to reduce costs and energy use, Bloomberg reported earlier Tuesday, citing an interview with Yee Jiun Song, vice president of engineering. The company is testing its third-generation chip, MTIA 450, or Arke, while the next model, MTIA 500, or Astrid, is slated to complete design work in about a month and begin deployment by the end of 2027, Bloomberg said.
