Market Chatter: BHP Port Hedland Workers in Australia to Pursue Arbitration After Wage Deal Stalls

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/15 09:18
05:18 AM EDT, 09/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BHP (BHP) workers at its Port Hedland facility in Australia are set to seek arbitration following the parties' failure to agree on terms for a new wage deal, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the Combined BHP Ports Unions. The union will apply for an intractable bargaining declaration that allows the Fair Work Commission to establish terms for the deal, according to the report. The mining giant has offered a 17% pay hike for most workers over the four years of the agreement, among other benefits, Reuters reported. BHP and the Fair Work Commission didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment. The company's shares were down 1.4% in premarket activity.
