Exchange-Traded Funds, Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell Tuesday Amid Rising Oil Prices

09:20 AM EDT, 09/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% higher in Tuesday's premarket activity amid rising oil prices. US stock futures were also mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.2%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.8%, and Nasdaq futures advancing 0.1% before the start of regular trading. The National Federation of Independent Business' monthly Small Business Optimism Index fell to a reading of 98.7 in August from 99.8 in July and was below a 100.8 reading a year ago. The New York Fed's inflation expectations report for August will be released at 11 am ET. The July consumer credit data is slated for a 3 pm ET release. In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 1.3%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 2.1% lower, Ether ETF (EETH) advanced 0.4%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) was flat. Power Play: Health Care The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) retreated 1.1%, the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was down 0.8%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) slipped 0.5%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 1% lower. Pharvaris (PHVS) stock was up more than 16% premarket after the company said that a global phase 3 study of deucrictibant extended-release tablets met the primary endpoint of reducing the mean monthly attack rate by 83%, compared with placebo, in people with hereditary angioedema. Winners and Losers: Industrial The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) retreated 0.2%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) were inactive. Bloom Energy (BE) was up 6% premarket, after a 7.4% increase in Friday's session. The company will join the S&P 500, effective Sept. 21, S&P Dow Jones Indices said Friday. Technology The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) advanced 0.6%, the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were inactive. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) was inactive, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 1.7%. IonQ (IONQ) shares were up 6% after the company raised its 2026 revenue outlook to a range of $450 million to $460 million, up from $280 million to $290 million anticipated previously, reflecting contributions from SkyWater Technology following its acquisition on July 31. Energy The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) was up by 1%. Solaris Energy Infrastructure (SEI) stock was 6% higher after the company raised its guidance for Q3 and Q4 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Consumer The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was down 0.3%, the Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) were inactive. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) lost 0.7%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were inactive. General Mills (GIS) shares were up more than 1% pre-bell after the company reaffirmed its fiscal 2027 financial guidance. Financial The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) retreated 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 2.1%, while its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was 2.1% higher. First Citizens BancShares (FCNCA) shares were up 1% in early-hours activity after the company said it converted 138 bank branches that it acquired from Bank of Montreal (BMO). Commodities Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was up by 2.1% at $93.43 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was 0.5% lower at $2.96 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 0.6%. Gold futures for November were down by 0.7% at $4,446.90 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures advanced 0.2% to $66.85 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) decreased 0.8%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was flat.
