The French Ministry of Agriculture and Food released a forecast on the 7th stating that France's wine production in 2026 is expected to reach 3.4 billion liters, making it one of the lowest yields in the past 30 years. The ministry's statistics department predicts that this year’s wine output will further decrease by 6% compared to 2025, which was also heavily affected by widespread heatwaves. Due to the heatwaves, grapes have suffered from sunburn and withering, leading to reduced wine production. Production in several regions, including Burgundy and the Loire Valley, is expected to decline. The Champagne region, renowned for its sparkling wine, is particularly affected, with wine output forecasted to decrease by half compared to last year. In addition to wine, the growth of various other crops in France has also been hit by the heatwave. In 2026, French corn production is expected to fall to its lowest level since 1980, while crops such as wheat, zucchini, and broccoli will also be severely affected.
