Bitcoin price remains under pressure after failing to hold above $80,000, sparking concerns about possible further declines. With $77,000 providing a key support, investors are closely watching whether this level can withstand ongoing weakness.

Key support levels in focus

As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $77,546, with a 24-hour trading volume of $34.43 billion. The asset’s market capitalization stands at approximately $1.56 trillion while posting a 1.77% decrease over the past day.

Crypto analyst Doran recently highlighted the importance of the $74,000 to $82,000 range for Bitcoin’s near-term direction. He noted that Bitcoin has fluctuated within a narrow corridor between $77,100 and $78,500, which has limited any decisive upward or downward move.

The asset faced resistance at $81,500 before dropping to its current levels, prompting speculation about whether it can establish strong support near $77,000. Market analysts have increasingly turned their attention to this zone as a potential tipping point for further price action.

Forbes contributor and technical analyst Frank Hepworth views the $77,000 level as especially critical. Hepworth pointed out that a breakdown below $77,000 could leave Bitcoin exposed to additional declines towards $72,000 or even to the 200-day moving average, currently at $69,500.

Doran has observed that the $74,000 to $77,000 range remains pivotal, offering a buffer for buyers and shaping the path towards possible new highs near $80,000.

Maintaining support in this area might enable bulls to stage another push toward the $80,000 to $82,000 resistance zone.

Bollinger Bands signal technical backdrop

Currently, Bitcoin is trading above the middle Bollinger Band, set at $73,875.89. The upper band stands at approximately $86,615, while the lower band is located near $61,137. Prices remaining above the middle band suggest that there is technical support beneath the market.

At the same time, the distance between the upper and lower bands points to elevated volatility. A move toward the upper band could signal renewed bullish sentiment if positive momentum develops.

Upper Bollinger Band $86,615
Middle Bollinger Band $73,875.89
Lower Bollinger Band $61,137

However, short-term metrics paint a more cautious picture. The MACD oscillator—which measures momentum—shows the MACD line at 3,412.73, still below the signal line at 3,482.71, with a negative histogram of -69.97. This setup points to softening buy pressure over the short term.

If Bitcoin manages an upside cross in the MACD, it could pave the way for renewed upward movement, contingent on continued defense of current support.

Near-term scenarios and market outlook

Short-term attention remains fixed on whether Bitcoin can maintain levels between $77,000 and $78,500. A sustained defense of this zone, along with improving technical readings, may allow a climb toward $80,000 or $82,000. Breaking out above this resistance could establish a more favorable setup for future rallies.

In the event that $77,000 is lost as support, analysts anticipate that focus could shift down to $74,000 or $73,000, and even $72,000. The 200-day moving average at $69,500 serves as a potential lower target if bearish pressure intensifies.

Frank Hepworth emphasized that a fall below $77,000 would likely increase downside risk for Bitcoin and direct attention to lower technical levels.

Bitcoin currently remains trapped between significant support from buyers below and resistance from sellers above. Wider market factors—including macroeconomic indicators like oil prices, interest rates, and ETF developments—will continue to play a role in determining the next major trend.
