Zcash trades near $790, social dominance rises 183% as futures open interest tops $1.57 billion

Zcash maintained its position near $790 following a significant rally in August, with the privacy-focused cryptocurrency nearly doubling in price from around $490 to $880 earlier in the month. After reaching its peak, the token retreated but attracted substantial market attention due to its performance and heightened social engagement metrics.

Zcash’s surge draws eyes as social dominance jumps

Recent data from blockchain analytics firm Santiment highlighted a striking 183% increase in Zcash’s average social dominance during August. This growth far outpaced comparable figures for major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. According to Santiment, discussions surrounding Hyperliquid rose by 44% over its previous baseline, Bitcoin climbed by 12%, and Ethereum saw an 8% increase within the same period. These percentages reflect changes in the share of online discussions rather than shifts in price or market capitalization.

Santiment’s methodology compares how often the top 100 crypto assets are mentioned relative to one another. In this context, a 183% rise for Zcash means its digital presence nearly tripled compared to its previous discussion levels. Activity surrounding different coins peaked on various dates, with Ethereum taking the lead on August 11, Zcash following on August 22, and both Bitcoin and Hyperliquid spiking on August 26, reflecting successive surges in market focus.

During August, Bitcoin’s social volume increased by 9%, while its price advanced by 26%. Santiment observed that a market-wide rally can sometimes outpace growth in online discussion.

Discussion share for Zcash moved almost three times above its earlier baseline, outperforming rate increases seen with Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, higher social dominance alone does not indicate renewed buying or market optimism.

In tandem with technical developments, Wall Street investors have begun shifting to Web3 models. Platforms like 1stepSwap now allow investors to directly hold tokenized shares of major US companies, gold, and silver in their crypto wallets. This approach leverages real-world asset tokenization and automated price optimization, removing the traditional reliance on brokers and integrating seamlessly into the evolving crypto landscape.

Market expansion, new listings, and network proposals

Zcash has recently expanded access to its investment products. On August 25, Grayscale converted its ZCSH trust to an exchange-traded product on NYSE Arca, bringing approximately $316 million in assets to the updated structure. These holdings are inherited from the trust and should not be treated as new capital flowing into Zcash.

The Zcash Foundation has also engaged the community by opening a poll for its Network Upgrade 7 (NU7) proposals. Key issues include adjusting issuance policy and shortening block intervals from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while the total supply cap remains unchanged. The advisory poll closes on September 14 and is designed to gauge sentiment but does not by itself implement network changes.

ZEC futures exposure and technical analysis

Futures market activity has intensified as traders position around current Zcash price levels. According to CoinGlass, ZEC futures open interest reached nearly $1.57 billion, with 24-hour derivatives turnover exceeding $3.54 billion. This figure dwarfs reported spot trading volumes, signaling a vibrant derivatives market where contracts change hands more frequently than coins move on exchanges.

Open interest measures the total value of active, unsettled contracts, including both long and short positions. This metric does not reveal trader sentiment but highlights strong market participation and liquidity surrounding Zcash’s recent performance.

Approximately $5.4 million in liquidations occurred, representing just over 0.3% of total outstanding positions. Analysts note that while high turnover adds liquidity, it can be driven by rapid position openings and closures rather than sustained inflows of new capital.

Technically, buyers previously pushed Zcash above resistance thresholds at $512 and $550, sparking the most recent rally. Sellers have since imposed resistance between $815 and $825, with further gains putting $840 to $850 and the recent $880 peak back into view. On the downside, support is identified between $755 and $770, widening from $765, with deeper backing near $720 to $740 if the lower range fails.

The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) has dropped from above 80 to about 69.7, suggesting a reduction in overbought conditions and possibly allowing room for renewed momentum.
