OpenAI has hired a senior executive from Meta Platforms (META.US) to oversee its Southeast Asia and Australia operations, aiming to seize growth opportunities in markets with over 600 million people. Sandhya Devanathan will take up this newly created position, becoming OpenAI's highest-ranking leader in the region. She will be responsible for consumer user growth, enterprise adoption and partnerships, operations, as well as engagement with regulatory agencies, and will start in October. Devanathan posted on LinkedIn on Friday that she will leave Meta, though she did not disclose further details. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed her appointment. Devanathan will be based in Singapore and report to Kiran Mani, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific.
