Hyperliquid Pulls Back 3% After ATH: Can $70B Volume Keep HYPE Bullish?

  • HYPE fell 3% after reaching an ATH, but strong momentum remains intact.
  • Hyperliquid recorded roughly $70 billion in weekly perpetual trading volume.
  • Open interest increased $1 billion, signaling continued trader participation despite rising volatility risks.

Hyperliquid has reached a crucial moment after posting another record weekly close. HYPE entered price discovery before slipping 3% during the latest session. The pullback has raised questions about whether buyers can maintain control. Yet, strong trading activity continues to support the bullish case. Weekly perpetual volume reached roughly $70 billion. Open interest also climbed by $1 billion. These figures suggest traders remain active despite the recent market cooldown.

HYPE Pullback Tests Strong Bullish Momentum

The broader crypto market enjoyed a powerful week from August 19 through 23. Large-cap cryptocurrencies posted several green daily and weekly candles. Total crypto market capitalization also gained more than $480 billion. Bitcoin attracted over 62% of those inflows. The concentration around Bitcoin shows that capital remains selective. Still, HYPE delivered impressive relative strength during the same period. Hyperliquid closed the week at a fresh all-time high. That move pushed the token into a price discovery phase.

The latest 3% decline may have also removed weaker leveraged positions. Meanwhile, rising open interest suggests traders continue opening new contracts. Open interest increased by roughly $1 billion during the past week. Such growth shows strong participation around the HYPE market. However, rising leverage can also increase volatility during sudden price swings. Hyperliquid continues to benefit from strong activity across decentralized derivatives markets. The platform generated $24.63 million in weekly fees.

Perpetual trading volume also reached approximately $70 billion during the week. Such volume gives the recent HYPE rally stronger market support. The move therefore appears driven by more than short-term speculation. HYPE also outperformed Bitcoin during the latest weekly period. HYPE/BTC gained more than 15% during the week. Ethereum’s ETH/BTC pair gained only around 6% during the same period.

Can $70B Volume Support Another HYPE Rally?

The key question now concerns sustainability after the recent record close. Strong volume, fees, and open interest currently support the bullish structure. However, broader market conditions have started showing signs of cooling. HYPE must therefore maintain strong demand during the current consolidation phase.

Continued trading activity would give buyers a stronger foundation for another move. Rising open interest could support further gains if leverage remains controlled. A sharp decline in volume could change the current outlook. Falling fees could also suggest weakening demand across Hyperliquid’s trading ecosystem.

Traders will likely monitor these metrics alongside price action. For now, the 3% pullback looks more like consolidation than a confirmed reversal. HYPE still benefits from record activity and strong relative performance. If those trends continue, another breakout could remain possible.
