Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs of 15%, 25%, and 50% on more than 700 types of U.S. goods starting from September 8. U.S. goods subject to the 50% tariff include steel, aluminum, furniture, golf clubs, clothing, and apparel. The countermeasures apply to U.S. imports worth CA$27.6 billion (equivalent to US$19.9 billion), focusing on dairy products, home appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, as well as electronics. The U.S. dollar figures are based on 2024 import data. The main commodity categories include:Steel and aluminum products (50%)Fish and seafood (25%)Milk, cream, and whey (50%)Cheese and curd (25%)Honey, molasses, and malt extracts (50%)Perfumes and beauty products (50%)Plywood (50%)Toilet paper, napkins, other paper products, and cardboard (25% or 50%)Carpets (25%)Clothing (50%)Home appliances, such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, and washers/dryers (25%)Radiators (25%), air conditioners (15%), and water heaters (25%)Machinery and tools (25% or 50%)Tableware (25%)Agricultural equipment (15% or 25%)Smartphones, monitors, and video game consoles (50%)Railway locomotives (25%)Motorcycles (50%) and trailers (25%)Furniture and lighting fixtures (25% or 50%)Golf clubs, fitness equipment, and fishing rods (50%).
