08:16 AM EDT, 08/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canadians are rallying around a "Team Canada" approach as the escalating trade war with the US fuels concerns over jobs and the economic outlook, according to an Angus Reid Institute survey published on Tuesday. The survey finds that 69% of Canadians want their province to prioritize a national response over provincial interests, with majorities in every province backing the approach. Canada broke off trade talks with the US late Friday over what it deemed as unacceptable last-minute demands. The government said it will introduce dollar-for-dollar measures against US tariffs. One in five Canadians report feeling frustrated or angry, while 12% cite anxiety, fear or uncertainty and another 7% express disappointment over the US tariff turmoil in the Angus Reid survey. Two-thirds of Canadians, or 66%, expect the trade war to have a fairly negative impact on their province's economy, added Angus Reid. Concern is highest in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, where 68%, 70% and 70%, respectively, foresee significant economic damage, as these provinces are expected to bear the brunt of potential job losses from the latest US tariffs.
