According to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Amazon (AMZN.US) plans to invest approximately €16 billion (about $21 billion) in Germany next year. Amazon stated that this investment covers "jobs, technology, and infrastructure," including the expansion of "data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure, high-speed satellite internet services provided through Amazon Leo, new nationwide logistics projects, and a new large-scale production initiative for Prime Video." David Zapolsky, Amazon's Senior Vice President of Global Public Policy and General Counsel, said in a statement: "Germany is a center of innovation and one of the most attractive investment opportunities in Europe. That’s why we have invested more than €100 billion (about $133 billion) here since 2010 and plan to add another €16 billion in investment by 2027." We hope that businesses, communities, and creators in Germany will have the infrastructure and tools to compete and grow. According to the company, about €4.8 billion (about $6.4 billion) of the planned investment will be used to expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Germany. The company said that currently, around 3,000 employees work for AWS in Frankfurt.
